Location Bids

General Information

Each year, members of the BookCrossing community are asked to nominate towns or cities around the UK which could hold the UK Unconvention.

Official bidders have to research a specific venue to hold the event, gathering information about room availability, date availability and venue costs (as applicable) from Friday evening through to Sunday morning. They also provide suggestions for possible activities specific to their chosen location, details of accommodation options, eating possibilities and transport links and information about why BookCrossers may wish to visit that particular town or city.

Once the closing date for bids has been reached, BookCrossers are given the opportunity to vote for their preferred location and the bidder for the winning location is then co-opted into the organising committee to play a key role in event planning from then on.

Notes on the 2011 Location Bids

All of the venues are disability friendly and have full IT facilities which will allow us to hold some interesting activities during the weekend.

All venues will be booked for both Friday evening (around 5pm until 10pm) and all day Saturday (around 8am until 6pm), with space available for bagging books for the release walks on Sunday morning.

Specific possible activities are listed for each location – some of these may be incorporated into the weekend or they may be options for people who stay in the area longer than for the Uncon itself.

Further information about planned activities for the weekend and other details will be provided elsewhere on the website as they become available.
