A rather splendid sounding one-of-a-kind blanket is being created for the raffle at the 2011 BCUK Unconvention and we would love as many people as possible to be involved in creating it. The blanket will be made up of 6″ x 6″ squares, all sewn together to create an item any BookCrosser would be proud to own (we’re sure Ballycumber and/ or Bally Hood will feature in there somewhere).
It is very exciting to announce that we will now also be making a children’s blanket as an additional raffle prize. Progress on working towards the two blankets can be seen below.
The project is being managed by beebarf who has set the following guidelines on how you can take part:
Yarn: double knit weight and machine washable, acrylic is perfectly fine and some of the bargain yarns come in nice bright colours.
Colours: any colours, so this is a great excuse to use your oddments. However sunshine yellow and lincoln green would be great if you are buying yarn specially. All squares to be one colour only though please.
Technique: either crochet or knitted will be fine, if we get enough squares it might be possible to do one of each.
Pattern: any stitch pattern as long as it is finished to the required size and of only one colour.
Size: 6 inches square.
Finishing: If possible leave enough of a tail of yarn for sewing up of the squares.
Deadline: Extended to 16th September, which will give beebarf enough time to sew the completed blanket(s) together and create a border.
The address to send your completed squares to depends on how many you are sending. When you are ready to post, please contact beebarf via PM or contact us and we can pass on details.
